EcoStruxure Panel Server, IoT gateway for power distribution
Schneider Electric's new generation IoT gateway: it connects wired and wireless electrical devices to on-site supervision or to the cloud.

- Software architect and Modbus expert
The need
In an electrical switchboard, Panel Server collects readings from meters, connected circuit breakers and wireless sensors, then passes them to the building supervision software or to the cloud. Schneider Electric describes it as a high performance modular gateway with enhanced cybersecurity. It replaces several earlier gateway ranges and brings three worlds together: Modbus for wired devices, Zigbee for wireless sensors, OPC UA for supervision. On Modbus, a badly timed frame loses a data point without raising any error: the reliability of the whole chain depends on these communication layers.
The solution
- 01
Software architecture of a system where Modbus TCP, Modbus RTU over RS-485, Zigbee and OPC UA coexist in the same gateway.
- 02
Modbus expert on the programme: component design, technical decisions and code review on everything related to the protocol.
- 03
Embedded web server: configuration of the gateway and its connected devices, and monitoring of readings as trend curves.
- 04
Development in C++ 17 on embedded Linux, with a distribution built with Yocto and BitBake.
- 05
Work in an international team, in English, on a continuous integration pipeline.
The outcome
Range sold worldwide by Schneider Electric in Entry, Universal and Advanced versions. Architect and Modbus expert on the programme since 2021.
