The need
At a bouldering competition, judges used to record each top on paper and the organisers recalculated the ranking by hand, while climbers and spectators waited for the podium. ClimbContest connects judges, organisers and the audience around a single ranking, computed continuously throughout the event.
Live results change the nature of the competition. Climbers watch their position move and spot the boulders worth the most points. The audience follows the race for the podium on the gym screen and on their own phones, and the awards come as soon as the last boulder is validated.
The solution
- 01
Judges' app that installs on any phone without going through an app store: two scans, the bib then the boulder, record a top. A local queue keeps every entry when the gym's network drops.
- 02
Ranking engine isolated from the rest of the server: each boulder is worth 1,000 points shared among the climbers who topped it, with rankings per FFME category, overall, women, men and by club.
- 03
Results on the projector in the gym, rotating automatically through the categories, with a podium updated at every top.
- 04
Live tracking for spectators on their phones: search for a climber, individual sheet and category ranking.
- 05
Organiser console: registrations imported from HelloAsso, circuits and boulders, printing of bibs and labels, live status of the judges' phones.
- 06
Two competition formats, judged or self-scored, switchable in the middle of the day.
The outcome
Used in competition by climbing clubs, sold through its own website and hosted on ADN Dev servers. Rankings are computed in real time, as each ascent is validated.
